Let the Reading Begin

   Posted by: Karen   in General

Good Saturday, everyone. I think we’re about ready to start this program. I’ve been tweaking the template and Dale has been lending me his geeky expertise to possibly insert some sort of avatar/signature with each individual’s reviewers post so readers can tell, at a glance, who is writing what.

This is the template that we have decided to go with. Many thanks to Dale for finding this particular template. I think it’s classy and sophisticated and just has a “bookish” feel to it. I know I said I wasn’t going to go with a three-column template, but this one somehow works for what we’re wanting to do. And besides, as Dale said, I’m not thinking about it as being a three-column template, but rather a 2.5-column template. *smile*

Google has approved me for the Adsense program. I’ll be looking into that a bit more so you can expect to see some text ads soon. I know we’re not supposed to ask for clicks, but since the ads haven’t technically appeared yet, all clicks would be greatly appreciated. If you click the ads, then revenue can build which in turn I will dish out to you, dear reader, by way of free books and other fun stuff. ;)

Reviewers, you can expect an email from me sometime this weekend. I will be assigning each of you your own account - when you receive the sign-on information, please feel free to sign on, update your profile (don’t forget to insert a link to your blog/website!) and change the password. You’ll each have the option to publish, so please, use the publish feature wisely. I would like to keep the posts to two a day so we don’t overwhelm our readers - more on that in the email you’ll receive shortly. If you’re ready to start submitting, then by all means, jump in whenever you’re ready. I imagine this blog will evolve and change over time, as most do, so we’ll really never know what works and what doesn’t until we give it a go.

If you would be interested in submitting a book review, please read our guidelines and then contact me (Karen). Guest reviewers are always welcome.

Please put us in your RSS feeds. If you’re interested in books at all, this will be the place for you. We hope you’ll find the content informative and fun as that is our goal here at Dear Reader.

Confession

I can’t do it. I just can’t do it, I tell you.

I simply CAN NOT go with a three-column template. I tried, I gave it my best shot, but every time I came back to the template … I just didn’t like it. It’s too cluttered.

My name is Karen and I abhor three-column templates.

There, I said it.

I like the simplicity of this template. However, the colors are pretty dull. So, look for some tweaks in the next few days.

In the meantime, are you reading?

I am. :D

Welcome Dear Readers

   Posted by: Karen   in General

So, here we are, on the maiden voyage of a new adventure. What is Dear Reader? It’s a blog about books and a place for aspiring writers to get a first-hand look at what readers look for in their stories.

Most of the content on this blog will be book reviews from various readers. This blog is about diversity and all genres are welcomed. In order to keep the material fresh and timely, this blog will consist of (roughly) ten readers who will post their reviews on whatever books they choose.

Comments are strongly encouraged and we hope visitors feel comfortable enough to jump in and offer their two cents on the books being discussed.

Our review criteria and rating system will be outlined soon.

After we have established ourselves in the blogging world, we will then open the floor to aspiring writers and they may submit the first three pages of their works in progress (WIP) for a public critique. Rules and submission guidelines will be posted soon.

It is highly likely that the authors of the books we review will see this blog. Please keep that in mind when you’re reviewing a book and when you’re commenting on said book. Though this is not to imply you should love everything about the book, any criticism must be professional and constructive. Any comments, or reviews, that are deemed offensive, slanderous, or poorly written, will either be edited by the administration, or deleted without notice and without explanation.

We’re just setting the foundation, so please, bookmark this site - http://take2max.com/reviews - and check back soon for reviews.
